A Shabby Chic Haven

Image

What does ‘Shabby Chic’ actually mean, well, the Collins dictionary says – ‘Distressed furnishing to achieve a romantic effect’, Wikipedia says, ‘Distressed, opulent yet cottage style, fabrics in linen, white or floral and pastel colours.

Many other styles can blend/fall under the umbrella of shabby chic.

So, here at Chichi we like to encompass the above and create stunning pieces that will transform your rooms into serene/inviting spaces, oozing character and style. Furniture doesn’t have to be purely functional. It can look great and add character and charm. Whether your rooms are small and need that petite carved unit to just complete a look, or your rooms are vast and you need a touch of extravagance to fill the space.

Below are a few ideas to inspire those creative juices and help create your dream Shabby Chic home.

ImageA gorgeous Bordeau style bombe chest, just enough carvings to highlight the beautifully curved frame, this piece would be subtly grand.

A delicate piece for that smaller room. Still oozing charm, yet not too big and overpowering that it will distract from the design of the room. The ornate carvings will ensure this piece will not fail to catch the eye!

Something a little bit special – feel like royalty when you get ready at this dressing table. Its presence will not go unnoticed, creating a stunning focal point in any room.

A splash of colour. If your scheme is perfect, but a bit too ‘bland’ then break up the design with this gorgeous green bedside with gold highlights. Enough colour to add warmth, not too much look out of place.

And FINALLY

ImageA touch of pure opulence – it will own its space, its big, its chic, it’s ornate and is finished in stylish silver leaf.

To end – don’t neglect your floors, windows and ceilings. When designing a room, look at levels, pattern, texture and colour. Select your furnishings and colour scheme, then make sure that the whole design is pulled together with stunning lighting, beautifully dressed windows and a great floor finish – whether it be natural wood/carpet, or a feature rug to tie in with the colour scheme and add some pattern/texture to the room. Continue the colour through the scheme with accessories like cushions, throws and even a vase of flowers and enjoy the end result.
